S+A & SMMA DEVELOP PLANS FOR RENOVATION TO PROVIDENCE COLLEGE'S SLAVIN STUDENT CENTER
After wrapping up CD for the now in-construction Shanley Hall, SMMA and S+A have once again been engaged to handle a critical campus-planning challenge for Providence College. The Slavin Student Center has acted as the main campus hub with a cafe, bar, dining hall, and student government home bases,–but also a slew of department offices and academic staff headquarters that feel out of place. PC now desires to re-think the quality of the space and the role it plays in campus life, and create a proposal for a student center that is well, more student-centered.

CMCB TO REVAMP IT'S TEACHING FACILITIES WITH EXPANDED SCOPE AND LARGER BUDGET THAN BEFORE
S+A was hired by the Community Music Center of Boston in 2019 to design a strategic (we called it "surgical") set of renovations to their teaching facilities on Tremont st. The Pandemic changed a lot, and for a while it looked like the project was in permanent suspension as the center handled the difficulties of teaching during COVID. Thus, it came as a wonderful surprise to us when CMCB announced not only was the project priority again, but the budget and scope was increased to reflect an increase in staff, a desire to expand the reach, and the feeling that the space should reflect the dignified work the center does, as the largest provider of after-school arts programs in Boston.

SHANLEY HALL ON TRACK FOR SUMMER CONSTRUCTION
Shanely Hall represents the end product of a several year study on PC's residential stock that led to the decision to build new construction. In summer 2021 after infection numbers were down and supply chains started to stabilize (at least a little), the schedule was kicked into full gear again with an ambitious Summer 2022 construction horizon. Now as CD and permitting are underway and furniture plans begin to be explored, it looks as though the pre-pandemic vision for a new residence hall is running full steam ahead, finally coming to life this summer.
