STEGMAN + ASSOCIATES ARCHITECTS PC is an award-winning Boston-based architecture and design practice established in 1995 by Janet Stegman.
OUR OFFICE has developed an expertise in programming and planning for campus life projects with a special emphasis on student housing and the impact of residence life on the holistic campus environment. We have worked with over 50 colleges and universities on the planning or design of over 35,000 student beds and closely follow trends in campus housing and student development.
IN ADDITION to Higher Ed, S+A has also engaged other diverse clients including hotels & hospitality, private residence work, small and medium scale housing developments, commercial & office space, educational nonprofits, and restaurants.
S+A's greatest strength is our ability to view all the complex parts of a project, whether it be strategic planning or finish selection as part of a the greater goals of the project. Keeping in sight of client intent and user experience is our highest priority.
JANET STEGMAN
PRINCIPAL
Janet Stegman received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. She has been a member of the part-time faculty since 1997 and is a Registered Architect in Massachusetts.
As a design educator her work with students often explores issues related to shelter at multiple scales and conditions, connecting trends from her professional work with studio explorations.
Stegman+Associates received a 2019 BSA Accessible Design Award for Renovations & Additions to a residence hall at Westfield State University. The firm was also the Associated Architect for the 468-bed HI-USA Boston Youth Hostel. That project received a BSA Award for Design Excellence and was a finalist for a 2013 Gold Key Award for “BEST ECO-CONSCIOUS OR SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS HOTEL"

JIM PIATT
PRINCIPAL
Jim received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Illinois and Master of Architecture from MIT. Jim is a LEED associate professional.
Jim has amassed a prolific body of work since beginning as a private practitioner in the 1980's. His experience is relatively evenly divided between mid sized multifamily housing, educational facilities, and hospitality. His work spans the whole country with projects in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, all the way to Natchez, Milwaukee and Riviera Beach FL.
With client programs as diverse as educational camp, active elder retirement community, corporate retreat, cruise ship interior, oceanfront condominium, and the monumental painted ceiling design of a theater, Jim is an architect of immense experience and creativity.
